about us

PetPat didn’t begin with a vision.
It wasn’t even a goal.
Little did I ever expect,
PetPat would become my lifeline.

Back then, Alwin and I were caught in the grind of everyday life. I worked in banking, and Alwin was a chef. On paper, everything looked fine. But inside our home, and inside myself, things were quietly falling apart. We argued often. Finances were tight. And I was slowly sinking into a sadness I couldn’t explain. I quietly slipped into depression—lost, disconnected, and unsure of what came next.

One quiet afternoon, I found myself sitting alone at a void deck, drained, hollow and barely holding myself together. That was when a ginger stray appeared. He didn’t just walk past. He paused, looked at me with knowing eyes, and gently climbed into my lap, as if he had been sent just for me. In that silent moment, his presence wrapped around me like comfort I hadn’t felt in months. No words were spoken, but somehow, I felt understood.

That one silent encounter felt profound. As Christians, we saw that moment as more than just mere coincidence. It felt like a sign, a quiet nudge from above. I returned to that spot day after day, hoping to see the ginger boy once more. But he never came back. Still, the seed had been planted.

We welcomed our first cat, Momo, into our home soon after, and life began to shift. I immersed myself in learning how to care for cats, eventually discovering a deep interest in grooming. At the time, cat-exclusive grooming was almost unheard of in Singapore—resources were scarce, and the industry barely existed. But with unshakable determination, YouTube tutorials, and hours of trial and error, I taught myself.

My first foray into the grooming industry took flight in 2016, with nothing but heart, scissors, and the dream of doing right by our feline friends. I began welcoming clients into my home for grooming sessions, and offered mobile services whenever a cat needed care beyond my doorstep.

In 2017, we bit the bullet and opened the first PetPat unit at Jalan Pelikat. It was a tiny and humble space just for cats. One of the first of its kind in Singapore (because most grooming shops are mainly catered for dogs!). We had no marketing knowledge, no social media presence, and barely any customers. Just a passion-fuelled work ethic and very long days—often 12 hours or more. I started with only one staff member, and together we handled everything: grooming, cleaning, customer care, and growing trust, one cat at a time. Every bill, every rent payment reminder felt like a countdown clock, reminding me how easy it would be to lose everything we had worked for.

During those early years, Alwin continued to work as a chef to support the business financially. On his days off, he’d come help out at the shop, especially with the more fearful and aggressive cats. When COVID-19 hit and the F&B industry temporarily shut down, he stepped in full-time. After the lockdown, he made a life-changing decision to leave the kitchen behind and devote himself entirely to PetPat. I am, to this day, profoundly grateful that he left the stability of a pay check to build something fragile but deeply meaningful with me.

Since then, we’ve moved into a bigger space, adopted six cats of our own, and continue to serve more cat parents. Today, PetPat is a proud cat-only grooming salon, hotel, and academy with a loyal and growing community.

In our early years, we offered free grooming for strays and low-income families. But over time, we learned that true impact comes from balance—wisdom in giving, and structure in service. Our mission has evolved: today, we focus on making grooming accessible, educating cat parents, and mentoring the next generation of groomers with compassion and proper technique.
PetPat is more than a grooming salon. It is our personal story of healing, faith, and love—for each other, and for every cat that walks through our doors. Each team member has also walked their own path to get here, carrying their own stories, their own struggles, and a shared love for cats that anchors us.

Because sometimes, all it takes is one stray cat to completely change the course of a life, and even the softest pawsteps can leave the deepest imprint on our hearts.
